A Tribute To Malaysia's Lady Of Liberty

She was an unknown to most of the Malaysians before the 9th July 2011.

And on that eventful morning, she woke up early, packed with a bottle and headed into the city centre.

The bus she took was stopped half way by the police and she decided to continue the journey by walking.

Along the way, she was questioned by the police on why she wore a yellow t-shirt. She retorted back, 'Why Not'.

She stood face to face with the water canon, endured the water jets and survived the tear gas attacks.

The rest was history as the 'rakyat' took to the street in a peaceful demonstration to demand for a clean and fair electoral system.

The bold and brave who walk their talks will be remembered forever by our future generation.

Thank you, Annie Ooi for your courage acts that deeply inspired many of us, the 'rakyat' of Malaysia ! You are truly a Anak Bangsa Malaysia.

Dear Dr Tero Varjoranta and team, welcome to this beautiful city of Kuantan. We trust that our government has bestowed upon you all the warmest Malaysian hospitality during your short stay in Malaysia. I hope you have enjoyed the clean fresh air, cool pure water, beautiful beaches and not forgetting the delicious seafood in town.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you and our government for organisating this meeting.

We believe our government would have briefed you and your team thoroughly on the events leading to the setting up this expert panel.

Yes, we were hopeful when our Prime Minister reiterated that safety and health of the people cannot be compromised in the review.

Allow me to briefly relate to you our side of the story on the events leading to this meeting today. Why we happened to meet here, We believe it is not by coincidence but because of the grave concerns expressed publicly by all the stakeholders.

It all started on 8th March 2011 by a New York Times report, titled “Taking A Risk On Rare Earths” by Keith Bradsher. It was reported that, “ For Malaysia and the world's most advanced companies, the plant is a gamble that the processing can be done safely enough to make the local environment risks worth the promised global rewards”.

On 20th March 2011, the Save Malaysia, Stop Lynas committee was formed to create awareness among the public and to gather signatures from all the stakeholders. The petition of more than 4,000 signatories was subsequently presented to the Parliament on the 29th April 2011.

Concurrently, a Facebook page “Pahang Does Not Need Hezadous Projects” was created and have garnered close to 30,000 fans to date, and it is still growing by the day. Please note that the majority of these supporters are children of Kuantan and Kemaman residents who live in other parts of Malaysia or oversea. They are voicing their concerns on behalf of their parents who are IT illiterate.

In early April, the Pahang government organised two town hall meetings to brief the public and stakeholders on the Lynas Lamp refinery. But the panel from the Atomic Agency and AELB of MOSTI and Department Of Environment, Pahang has failed miserably to convince the public and stakeholders on the safety and health aspect of the refinery.

During the meeting, only the EIA report was briefly explained by the Department of Environment but the most important Radioactive Impact Assessment report was not even mentioned by AELB.

The Atomic Agency of MOSTI, who acted as the consultant for Lynas Lamp may have contravened the rule of good practice and guilty of conflict of interest.

To our greatest disappointment, Lynas Lamp’s representative as the other stakeholder was not even present to answer our questions and concerns.

The key issues in contention are the large amount of the imported radioactive waste and its work-in-progress Waste Management Plan.

With due respect, correct me if I am wrong, please allow me to ask 7 questions here :-

1)Does IAEA permits the dumping of large amount of low level radioactive material from one country to another ?

2)In this case, Lynas may be technically legal to bring in low level radioactive rare earth, but is it morally right to allow the accumulation of such a huge amount thorium waste, estimated 106 tonnes per year ?

3)Is it the international practice of IAEA to allow building of rare earth refinery with work-in-progress Waste Management Plan ?

We were told by the DG of AELB during the town hall meeting on the 5th April 2011, that Malaysia will impose the highest international licensing standard for rare earth refinery as a result of the bad experience with Asian Rare Earth in Perak.

My next question is, “ Is Malaysia imposing the strictest international licensing standard for the Lynas Lamp refinery ?' as claimed by the DG of AELB.

Sadly, based our observations, AELB has failed in this respect. Apparently AELB allowed Lynas to rush ahead to build the plant without a RIA report...Malaysiakini, 23/5/2011

But we are in totally agreement with Western Australia MP Robin Chapple's statement that “We should have stripped the material out here in Western Australia, returned it to the pit and not exported to Malaysia where it becomes a problem for the Malaysian people.”..........ABC News May 22, 2011

Our fear on the hazardous radioactive waste were confirmed with the latest reports by Dr Chan Chee Koon, Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Malaya and Dr David KL Quek, President MMA.

Dr Chan said Lynas has conveniently ignored the deliberations of the Committee Examining Radiation Risks from Internal emitters (Cerrie), an independent committee established by the UK Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Department of Health (2001-2004) following concerns over risks of internal irradiation (www.cerrie.org) when he responded to Lynas chairman's claim that the plant is safe and the stakeholders' irrational fear of non-existent threat.

'While the committee did not arrive at a consensus on the severity of health hazards from internal emitters, 'all but one member of the committee believe that the low level intake of radio nuclides leads to some increased risk of adverse health effects as a result of internal irradiation of organ and tissues.'...Report of the Committee Examining Radiation Risks of Internal Emitters, 2004, p117, para22.

The intensity of radiation from a radioactive particle a metre away from a human body is increased a trillion fold when it is ingested or inhaled and sits within a micron of the body's organs and tissues.”............The Sun 23/5/2011

My next question is, “ Is the Lynas Lamp refinery so impregnably designed that it can absolutely prevent any suspended, respirable dust particulates of both the raw materials and residual solid wastes from leaking into the air space ?

In the article by Dr KL Quek, President of MMA, “No dose of radiation is safe”, it is found that there is no safe level of residual thorium, particularly if the isotope is unstable. Even when about 0.02-0.05% of ingested thorium is absorbed into the blood stream it is quickly deposited in : bone (70%, biological half life 22 years), liver (4% biological half life 700 days), other organs and tissues (16%, biological half life 700 days) with only 10% excreted. This internal emission gives rise to continued harmful effects of internal radiation which can lead to possible cancers, leukaemias and other genetic mutations and organ damage.

“Low level radiation is certainly not harmless. The US National Academy of Science BEIR VII report has concluded that no dose of radiation is safe, however small, including background radiation; exposure is cumulative and adds to an individual's risk of developing cancer.”...The Sun..27/5/2011

My next question is, “Does this IAEA expert panel concurred with the finding of the US National Academy of Science that NO DOSE OF RADIATION IS SAFE ?”

It is ironic that the lives of the estimated 575,000 residents of Kuantan and Kemaman now lie your hands, the nine members IAEA expert panel. And we can understand the heavy responsibility upon all of you when deliberating ton his decision of grave importance. I beseech you to listen to your inner hearts on top of the arguments and facts presented from both sides of the divide.

My final question will be, “With due respect, we noted that in this IAEA expert panel, independent experts from public health, radiation safety, medicine, environment, law and social science are conspicuously missing. Will your report provide an all encompassing and holistic conclusion to the safety and health of the stakeholders ?”

As stakeholders, we hope the IAEA expert panel and the government will recognise our right to choose the air that we breath, the seafood that we partake, the clean water that we drink, the radiation-free sea that we swim in and the uncontaminated foods that we consume every day.

Without a shadow of doubt, we absolutely object to the Lynas Lamp refinery in our city as it has already threatened the livelihood of the most of the stakeholders. Workers around Gebeng area are already thinking of leaving their jobs. Businesses and tourism industry are directly and indirectly affected. Property prices within 20 km of the refinery have already dropped by 20%. Many residents in Kuantan and Kemaman are fearful of the adverse effect on airborne radiation should any human errors or natural disasters happened to the refinery.

As our Prime Minister has promised us that the safety and health of the people cannot be compromised in this review, therefore Lynas Lamp refinery must be relocated back to Australia.

We urge you, the expert panel, please do not start the clock that begins the count down to disaster ! Our bloods will be in your hands should any untoward radioactive disaster happen to the Lynas Lamp refinery. May your God guides you in the decisions making, for men can plan, but God will decide.

Salam in the spirit of 1 Malaysia from all of us in Kuantan,

We applaud your vision of a 'People First, Performance Now' government of the day.

We write in response to you as the Prime Minister of this beloved nation

We are but ordinary 'rakyat', living simple lives in this beautiful city,

Blessed with pure clean air, golden sandy beaches and healthy environments,

The matter in contention is the Lynas rare earth plant in Gebeng,

The MITI minister granted the pioneer status and 12 years tax breaks,

The MB approved the site in Pahang, and the Exco passed the EIA report,

The AELB approved the building of the plant and now it's nearing completion,

All this while, as stakeholders in this matter, we were kept in the dark most of the time,

What the New York Times revealed in March was a shock to most of us,

And the briefing by MP of Kuantan shed more lights on the hazardous nature of the radioactive wastes.

All of a sudden, we were awaken to the nightmare before us,

And the non-partisan Save Malaysia, Stop Lynas committee was formed to voice our concerns

But alas, our petitions and memorandum stop short of reaching you in the Parliament,

Thank God, we the Kuantan folks never give up on this just and noble cause,

Wave after wave of initiatives were launched to create public awareness,

We have forums, peace doves origami, 1000 Mothers Day gathering, Solidarity Walk and more

From a ripple and now turning into a storm, reaching even the Australia shore

Sadly your servants in MOSTI and Pahang State failed miserably to convince us,

In fact most pertinent questions were left unanswered during the first two town hall meetings,

More irresponsibly the remaining scheduled town hall meetings were canceled at the last minutes,

Under tremendous pressure, the Minister of MITI finally announced an international panel to look into all aspect of health and safety.

You confirmed that safety and health of the 'rakyat' will not be compromised in Pekan last month

Now our fate lay in the hands of the IAEA members, of which we do not even have a say.

The bug has been passed from MIDA to AELB to MB to Ministers of MOSTI and MITI,

Dear Mr Prime Minister, as the Numero Uno of this nation, surely this bug must stop at your desk

Give us an offer we cannot refuse,

And forever we'll hold our peace in this Lynas issue.

Leave us a legacy that our children and children's children can be proud of you

You say, we are blindly following the opposition,

We say, you have insulted the intelligence of Kuantan folks. In fact we are so cool that the forum panel can't answer our questions.

You challenge us to gather 1000 folks to the forum and you will bring in 10,000

We say, it sounds like a threat, only gangster do that.

You say, only the Chinese object to this project,

We say, all the 'rakyat' reject Lynas, regardless of race, religion and region.

You throw a tantrum in the State Assembly, threatened to close up all the factories in Gebeng,

We say please go ahead for we know even if you want to, Pahang has no money to compensate them.

And now you say, you can't close down Lynas, it's Federal Government's call,

We say, you must have mastered the art of Tai Chi, passing the bug to Federal,

You say, you will bring in more experts from all over the world to convince us,

We say, look no further, the victims and experts from Bukit Merah had more than convinced us,

Well, let us tell you this,

As long as the Lynas issue is not resolved,

The matter in contention is the thorium waste,

Which you called lanthanide, but Mr Curtis admitted it was thorium.

You say, it is from Mount Weld Australia,

We say, we don't want any toxic waste from anywhere.

You say, it is alright

We say, all are not right. Even the Australian parliament rejected Lynas's proposed plant.

You say, we are already exposed to ambient radiation, in car park or taking a plane,

We say, we consent to those already in our environment, but we reject any imported radiation from Australia

You say, don't worry, AELB will enforce the strictest rules,

We say, look what happened to Bukit Merah ?

You say, it is safe, only 0.16% in concentration

We say, oh no, it is 0.16% of the 22,000 tonnes, enough to kill someone within 2 short days.

You say, it is technically legal to issue the license,

We say, it is morally wrong to kill our future generation,

It is sad to know that you have already decided to approve the license,

Even before you hear our concerns, objections and pleas,

So before you issue the license to Lynas,

Think of yours and our children, and their children's children,

For thorium has a half life of thousands of year,

Killing all forms of life, from generation to generation,

Is this the legacy you want to leave to your children ?

Hoh Kun Fatt's Sacrifice

KUANTAN: A former drug addict sacrificed himself by jumping into the sea to save another man from his church group who was swept away by high tide during an outing at the popular Teluk Chempedak beach here.

The body of Hoh Kun Fatt, 22, from Kampung Baru Ampang, Selangor, was found at 5.11am yesterday near the Hyatt Regency Resort here, about 900m from where he was last seen.

Family and church members mourned the death of Hoh, whose last words were: “Save the others!”

Hoh had jumped in to save Pastor Loh Chee Kuang, 38, in the Thursday tragedy.

Eyewitness Pastor Chow Kok Min, 42, said Hoh had managed to save himself and hung on to a rock when he spotted Loh submerging – and he jumped right back into the water.

Other group members from Charis Youth Centre, Broga, then dived in and managed to pull Loh to safety, said Chow at the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan mortuary.

Hoh was nowhere to be seen as the waves continued to hit the shore.

“We will return to Kuantan to complete our mission after Hoh’s funeral in Kuala Lumpur,” said Chow, adding that Hoh would have wanted them to complete their anti-drug awareness campaign at eight Chinese primary schools here.

In Kuala Lumpur, Loh said Hoh had doubled back to save his life even though both of them could not swim.

“He managed to push me to the rocks, but another wave hit us and we were dragged back out to the sea,” a visibly upset Loh said at the funeral service in Kampung Baru Ampang last night.

Another church member who was also caught in the waves, Ng Niang Ping, 30, recalled that Hoh had kept pushing him towards the rocks so he could get to safety.

Hoh’s sister, Mei Kin, 30, held back tears as she recounted how her deceased brother changed for the better after joining the church.

“It’s heartbreaking to see him gone, especially just when he got his life back on track. We are so proud of him,” she said.

Kun Fatt's life on earth may be short but his sacrifice endure forever.

He has given his ultimate love to his friend.

I'm tired of all the lies.
I am tired of being bombarded by messages meant to confuse, misguide and lead me where the government wants us to go.

Here's the truth.
No one party has all the answers.

Not Barisan Nasional,

not Pakatan Rakyat,

not MCLM, Third Force or whatever they choose to call themselves, or even barbers and taxi drivers.

You see us as cows and you the cow herders call us, not by name,

you definitely don't know our names.

But by demographics, group, age, economic status and worst of all, race.

You take aim at the vulnerable.

You tell the elderly that the other party will steal your security, but make them stand in

lines at the public hospitals.

The elderly cry "my pension" and you promise, "We'll fix it."

The only thing you need to fix are the broken promises you've all made before.

You create fear-filled television messages, with ominous looking images of angry people picked by you because they have no jobs, while you recite facts twisted to fit your view.

In truth they are snippets of reality, incomplete sound bites and images of your opponent looking their worst.

You wave flags and gather your family for a portrait, shake hands with our military,
nod your head in agreement with union leaders,
stand near an Orang Asli whose very livelihood is being plowed under by over-regulation and huge corporate control and we become numb to the relentless pounding of the distant drums of doom.

The past 30 years has been called the "dumbing down of Malaysia."

You talk about securing our borders and strengthening our defence with pointless purchases of war machines.

All of this while you fight on the floor of Parliament, in the halls of the state assemblies and the corrupt chambers of local government over nothing more than the betterment,
not of the people you serve,
but your party's agenda and control.

No one individual can solve all of Malaysia's problems.

Not the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Not Anwar Ibrahim.

And not political celebrities or on air personalities.
We all must work together or together we continue failing as a nation.

The greatest discovery in 2010 was the opportunity to re-read the book, 'The Purpose Driven Life' by Rick Warren.

One day, I saw the book which was laying on the shelves in my son's room and I instantly picked it up. Since then, I always kept it near to me. Whenever I have the time, I'll read it again and again.

What a revelation to answer the five questions of the heart. Who am I. Where am I from. Why am I here. What can I do and where am I going.

Now I am more than convinced that I am planned for God's pleasure. I am formed to be part of God's family. I am created to be like Christ. I am shaped to serve God and I am made for a mission.

A Tribute To Aung San Suu Kyi

AFTER a donkey number of years in and out of Burmese prison, Aung San Suu Kyi is free once again, to mingle with the ordinary people of Burma or Myanmar.

The world had anticipated her release, after the court in Myanmar had freed most of the military regime’s detained prisoners. As to what will happen next, nobody knows for sure

After the prolonged stand-off between the generals and Suu Kyi, it is not clear how the current situation can ever develop into a peaceful win-win situation for all.

On the one hand, Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy has been sidelined by the development of political events. She is now left with remnants of her old political party, struggling for legitimacy and organisational revival.

Having been declared illegal by the government, her old political party is a poor instrument for the new political scenario.

Meanwhile, she will have to watch out for close monitoring from those in power, who would only be too glad to see her fledging political base being squandered by capricious moves.

Her political future in Myanmar will probably be decided by her moves within the next 30 days.

Let us speculate regarding the worst possible scenario.

Suu Kyi’s worst enemies must now be the government’s spies and agent provocateurs, who will try to create some disturbance, to provide an excuse for the security forces to conduct mass arrests of opposition elements.

We know that Suu Kyi is free for the moment, but nobody can say for certain how long she will be allowed to go about her business. The more seasoned observers among us expect her to be arrested any time soon.

This then is the dilemma the world is facing, in respect of Suu Kyi’s predicament.

We all know that her arrest and imprisonment are all arbitrary, and under the proper rule of law, her punishment at the hands of the state could never be tolerated.

Simply put, the rule by the military junta is one of the most primitive forms of political oppression in the world.

What happened in Myanmar can only exist there in the isolation of their state.

It is an anomaly that begs to be removed, for the sake of human progress.

But look at it from Suu Kyi’s point of view.

Her stand of non-violent confrontation is probably the only option left to her.

As long as she adopts the non-violent means of struggle, she stands on her moral high ground far more effectively than if she conducts an armed struggle.

Yesterday, I went to visit my friend from Myanmar, who has been living and working in Malaysia for many years.

Like most of the Myanmar diaspora in Malaysia, my friend, Amin, is happy that his leader is out of jail.

We have a large number of the Myanmar diaspora in Kuala Lumpur.

They take the trouble to come together for an unofficial gathering every once in a while to exchange their news from home, and to relieve one another of their homesickness.

Their response to Suu Kyi’s release was unanimous: They were all happy and full of hope that the politics in Myanmar will now be ready for a change for the better.

Having watched the politics in our neighbouring country for many years, I am quite pessimistic about the prospects for political reform in Myanmar at the moment.

The generals have all the trump cards and are calling all the shots. It is unlikely that the generals who have all the power in Myanmar will give up any of it.

We are far from witnessing a regime change in that country as yet. This is rather unfortunate.

Myanmar is blessed by her store of natural resources and minerals.

A generation ago, she had one of the most educated peoples among all Asian countries.

Today, she still has every chance to grow into a prosperous and democratic nation with living standards that can compete with any other nation. Unfortunately, because of the bad politics that has its roots in the 1960s, Myanmar is still stuck in the quicksands of time, struggling with an archaic form of government, the military junta.

The people in Myanmar must be praying for deliverance from the yokes of their historical past.

They deserve to join the ranks of other ‘emerging nations’ and reap the benefits of their national development. The junta stands in the way of this development.

We must pray that justice will be restored to the people in Myanmar.

I just want to pen a short note to tell you that the draft Constitution of the Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MLCM) has just been finalised. MCLM’s lawyer has just sent it through to me and I am studying it now.

Later today I shall be fetching Haris Ibrahim from the tube station. He will be arriving about 5.00am this morning UK time. Haris and I will then go through the Constitution to make sure that it is in order before releasing it to the public.

Haris will be spending about a week with me here in the UK to go through the mission and vision of the MCLM. Basically, what we will focus on will be:

1. The MCLM will become a pressure group of civil society movement activists with a view to engage politicians, not to become politicians.

2. The MCLM will assist any political party that may be looking for candidates from amongst the civil society movement activists to field in the next general election.

3. The MCLM committee members and officer bearers themselves will not be contesting the general election to prevent anyone from using the MCLM as a platform to further their own political careers.

4. The MCLM will attempt to mould and shape the Malaysian political landscape and culture, not instead to be moulded or shaped by the political culture.

5. The MCLM will stand on the outside looking in, not get in and become tainted by politics.

These are just some of my early thoughts on the entire thing and I know that Haris has more up his sleeve.

By next Saturday, 27 November 2010, I hope to call for the second committee meeting of the MCLM and finalise all these issues. Thereafter, we shall make known what has transpired, where we are coming from, and where we hope to get to.

In the meantime, the website (http://mclm.org.uk/) is being completed and we hope to open it for public viewing soon so that those who share the aspirations of the MCLM can sign up as members. The Constitution, membership form, Mission and Vision Statement, etc., will all be on the website. Rest assured that the MCLM will be run with complete transparency as a demonstration to the political parties how we would like things done in the political arena.

Till then stay tuned and I shall update you as we go along."

For the 'rakyat' who are concerned about the abused of powers, corruption, lack of justice and incompetence politicians in this beloved country, Malaysia, it's time to play our active roles as peace loving, truth seeking and responsible citizen.

INVITATION TO THE LAUNCH OF BERSIH 2.0
UNITE AND ADVANCE ELECTORAL REFORM

We, the BERSIH 2.0 steering committee, invite your organisation to join and unite with us to advance clean and fair elections in Malaysia. Much still needs to be done and Bersih 2.0 needs your support and help to make the mission come true for a democratic Malaysia.

BERSIH 2.0 believes that it is only when elections are clean and fair, can citizens determine their own destiny and expect holders of public office to act accountably and effectively. The road to electoral reform is part and parcel of the democratic process to put into place the rule of law, human rights protection, good governance and sustainable development in Malaysia. As citizens we can make this our reality.

The key issues of electoral reform include

1. A complete revision of the electoral roll to ensure that the existing irregularities are removed and a roll with full integrity is in place.

2. The use of indelible ink (as is done in Indonesia and India) to prevent multiple voting.

3. The reform of postal voting to abolish the existing separate electoral roll for postal voters and to make it flexible for all voters, at home or abroad, with valid reasons to opt for postal voting.

4. Free and fair media access for all contesting parties, which should include: (a) free access to state-owned media especially television and radio; (b) fair paid access (political advertisement) to private media; and (c) provision of the right of reply for all contesting parties and personalities who are covered negatively in news reports.

5. A meaningful minimum campaign period of 21 days.

6. Fair and professional practices in constituency redelineation exercises to minimise malapportionment, gerrymandering and consequent disproportionality in seats and votes.

7. Automatic registration of all eligible voters.

8. Reduction of the voting eligibility age from 21 to 18 years old.

9. Reform in electoral financing to ensure transparency and limit the influence of money politics.

10. Administrative neutrality of all levels of governments before, during and after general and by-elections for the federal and state legislatures.

11. Affirming the right of all students of 18 years and above, to participate in politics inside and outside campus.

Bersih 2.0, whilst acknowledging the importance of the reform agenda of Bersih, is now relaunched as a fully non-partisan coalition of civil society groups. It is a movement of ordinary citizens asserting the right of all, to clean and fair elections as guaranteed by law. We must ensure our votes and voices count.

We, therefore, warmly invite you and your organisations to join us and extend your full support to ensure that the next election and future ones will be clean, fair and democratic.

Many who attend the meeting at Wesley Church last night were healed physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Dr Bernard Blessing, an anointed man of God, working with the Holy Spirit was sharing the Word in Exodus 2:1-10.

The congregation was exceptionally attentive during the 3 hours of sermon with burst of laughters intermittently when light hearted warnings were shared.

I especially enjoyed the illustration on the toothbrush as I was one of the guilty ones.

Today is the first celebration of Malaysia Day, despite the formation of this blessed nation 47 years ago.

On the 16th September 1963, Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia agreed to the formation of MALAYSIA in a 20 points agreement.

For the past 46 years, the national celebration was on the 31st August Merdeka Day.

We have neglected our fellow brothers and sisters in Sabah and Sarawak in our national celebration.

On this auspicious day, I would like to seek forgiveness from our brothers and sisters in Sabah and Sarawak for our past trespasses.

Let this be a time of forgiveness and reconciliation among all the 'rakyat' of Malaysia.

Let us work together as one 'rakyat' and one nation.

Farewell Uncle Fong Lan

This morning we received a call from our cousin brother on the demise of my uncle Fong Lan at Serdang Hospital, Kuala Lumpur.

Praise God that we had made the trip to visit him on Merdeka Day, last week. During our visit, we had the opportunity to share with my uncle the Good News. After the short sharing, we were comforted that he had accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Saviour.

Thank God that my uncle, Fong Lan is now with Jesus in Heaven.

Miracles in Kuantan

The last 3 nights evangelistic event by Roy Durman at the Tamil Methodist Church were truly eye opener for many who attended.

He was in Kuantan more than 27 years ago and his return was a blessing for those who believed in God.

He came in obedient to the Word of God in Luke 10:8-9. "And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they areceive you, eat such things as are set before you: And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The akingdom of God is come nigh unto you."

Throughout the nights, many were healed of abdominal pains, cervical disorders, herniated discs, nasal blockage and even the blind can see and the deaf can hear.

Praise God ! Thank you, our Jesus heals.

Bravo Professor Tan

Tan has a gentle charisma. But within the velvet glove of charm, the iron fist of determination is clearly evident. His wife, Sanchia, says people once told him he could never be a surgeon with his hand, roughened by hard physical work as a child.

One of 14, he was born in a little village in Malaysia. "As children, we worked in the plantations - coconut, coffee, palm oil. Life was always a struggle, but I wanted to rise above that and have professional life, and being a doctor was my dream."

His fater had only primary school education, his mother none. They sent Tan to a Chinese school - "which means you can't go anywhere, not even to the local university. It was madness, but they believed they should keep the heritage. In order to go to a Western country, I had to learn English. So after high school, I went to a college run by Australians in Kuala Lumpur for nine months. The way I learnt English was to read the newspaper from page one to the last page everyday. But if you want to go somewhere, that's what you've got to do. You can feel sorry for yourself and do nothing or get up and do something useful - and look beyond what you've got."

Australia was offering free tuition to a limited number of students from developing countries, and having gained a place Tan started at the University of Melbourne's Medical School in 1980. He got up at 5.00am three times a week to clean a supermarket. "In my final year the surgical registrar to me aside and said, 'I don;t think it's good for you to be half an hour late every morning', and I had to tell him. He said, "Why don;t you take up a loan, and I'll be the guarantor.' He took that risk with me and gave me a hand. This is something I never forget and I do for the next generation - because it is the right thing to do."

This year it is Uniting The Generation For The Nation. As families are the building blocks of a just and righteous nation, so every member of the family must be responsible to do his/her part for the nation and God.

Abolish ISA Now !

CANDLELIGHT vigils on the night of 1 Aug 2010 to protest against 50 years of the Internal Security Act (ISA), which allows for indefinite state detention without trial, were marred with arrests and heavy police presence.

In Petaling Jaya, around 200 protesters gathered for the vigil in Dataran Timur opposite Amcorp Mall from 8pm onwards. However, the police, numbering between 80 and 100, were intent on dispersing the peaceful gathering, citing the lack of a police permit. This led to an hour-long confrontation, and pandemonium, between the protesters and the police as the gathering moved from Amcorp Mall to Dataran Timur back to the mall.

By the end of the protest, 36 arrests were made. Twitter reports from the ground said police targeted those who carried candles or wore anti-ISA badges, or who wore red, the colour of the anti-ISA protest. Police also threatened to arrest those who chanted “Hidup, rakyat” outside the police station. Police eventually began releasing the arrested, on police bail, from 3am onwards.

Similar arrests were also made in Penang and Kelantan.

I was saddened to read that more 40 activists were arrested for attending a candle light vigils in Selangor, Penang and Kelantan.

ISA was passed in the Parliament in the 1960s to facilitate the war against communists.

50 years on, the war against the communist was won and yet the government still retained the ISA.

Nowadays the ISA is being used to detain political activists mainly.

It is time to call for the abolishment of ISA for the well being of all 'rakyat'.

We demand our rights to live in a peaceful and harmonious nation, free from abuse of power and threats by the powers that be.

Dear beloved Ronald Kiandee, rest assured that every Sabahan will never forget what you did when you rejected the tabling of the motion to set up the royal commission on illegal immigrants in Sabah. You said that nobody will vote for the motion to be passed, including the Sabah BN MPs.

It is unbelievable that Sabah MPs would not vote in support for this motion. Why? What, may I ask, is your reason for not supporting this motion. Please don't give me stupid reasons such as, 'irrelevant', 'unnecessary', 'pointless' or other stupid arguments. The fact is you are hiding something. You prove to us that Barisan Nasional is not for Sabah.

To all the Sabah MPs, you must all feel relieved by this for you need not be put in a difficult position of voting against the motion. We will remember you. We have your names. We will not be like before where we say: 'Apa boleh buat?' This issue will not be put to rest. We will carry on this fight so that truth and justice prevails.

NEW YORK June 17 — Investor Warren Buffett and Microsoft founder Bill Gates announced yesterday that they are asking hundreds of billionaire Americans to give away at least 50 per cent of their wealth to charity Buffett who made his fortune with insurance and investment company Berkshire Hathaway Inc Gates and his wife Melinda have held a series of dinners with a couple dozen rich Americans in the past year to urge them to make a philanthropic pledge.
They have named the campaign the Giving Pledge and are asking those who commit to giving away at least half their fortune during their lifetime or after their death to publicly state their intention with a letter explaining their decision

Run for the nation

I woke up at 5.30 am this morning and went straight to join the run.

By the time I reached the waiting point, I was already late. Sister Jin Ping, Joel Ting, Mei Ching and Idah were waiting in the car. We were the third leg runners and our staring point was at Caltex petrol station along Jalan Gambang.

We waited about one hour when the second leg runners reached us. Brother Khor, the key coordinator then requested us to complete the fourth leg of the run as the runners for that leg were absent.

Though it doubled the distance, nevertheless we tried our best and completed both legs with some spare stamina.

Joel Ting, the youngest runner did very well and his mother Mei Ching also managed to complete the run. Jin Ping and Idah were still refresh after the run.

Praise God for His mercy, grace and strength. Thank God for His protection of our coming and going out.

During the run, we prayed for God's kingdom to be upon this nation, where love, peace, joy, justice and truth shall prevail.

This government is going to transform our politics so the state has far less control over you, and you have far more control over the state.

This government is going to break up concentrations of power and hand power back to people, because that is how we build a society that is fair.

No national identity register, no second-generation biometric passports.

We won’t hold your Internet and e-mail records when there is just no reason to do so.

CCTV will be properly regulated, as will the DNA database, with restrictions on the storage of innocent people’s DNA.

And we will end practices that risk making Britain a place where our children grow up so used to their liberty being infringed that they accept it without question.

There will be no ContactPoint children’s database.

Schools will not take children’s fingerprints without even asking their parent’s consent.

This will be a government that is proud when British citizens stand up against illegitimate advances of the state.

That values debate, that is unafraid of dissent.

That’s why we’ll remove limits on the rights to peaceful protest.

It’s why we’ll review libel laws so that we can better protect freedom of speech.

Tulang Besi revealed the open letter Tun Mahathir wrote to Tunku Abdul Rahman, indirectly accusing the Chinese for the May 13th bloody riot in 1969.

Patek berasa dukachita kerana tujuan patek membuat kenyataan kepada akhbar telah di-salah faham oleh Y.T.M. Tunku. Sa-benar-nya tujuan patek sama-lah juga dengan tujuan Tunku, ia-itu untok menyelamatkan negara ini daripada bahaya yang menganchamkan-nya.
Pendapat-pendapat Tunku berasaskan kepada cherita-cherita yang di-bawa kepada telinga Tunku oleh orang-orang yang mengelilingi Tunku yang chuma suka mencherita kepada Tunku perkara2 yang mereka fikir Tunku suka atau patut dengar sahaja. Benarkan-lah patek bercherita berkenaan dengan keadaan, fikiran dan pendapat2 rakyat yang sa-benar-nya supaya Tunku dapat faham tujuan patek membuat kenyataan yang di-tegor itu.

Tunku biasa cherita kepada patek sendiri ia-itu Tunku mengelakkan rusohan dengan menahan hukum bunoh yang di-jatohkan kepada 11 orang subversif China. Sabenar-nya tindakan Tunku ini-lah yang mengakibatkan rusohan dan kematian yang berpuloh kali banyak yang terjadi semenjak 13 Mei.

Tunku selalu "bertolak-ansor," ia-itu memberi kepada orang2 China apa yang mereka tuntut. Punchak tolak-ansur ini ia-lah pembatalan hukum bunoh tadi. Pembatalan ini menimbulkan kemarahan yang besar oleh orang2 Melayu.

Orang2 China pula menganggap Tunku dan Kerajaan Perikatan sebagai pengechut dan lemah dan boleh di-tolak ke-sana ke-mari. Sebab itu orang2 China tidak takut lagi menolak Perikatan dan orang2 Melayu pula tidak ingin kepada Perikatan. Sebab itu orang2 China dan India membuat kurang ajar pada 12 Mei kepada orang Melayu. Kalau Tunku biasa di-ludah di-muka, di-maki dan di-tunjok kemaluan, boleh-lah Tunku faham perasaan orang Melayu.

Orang2 Melayu yang Tunku fikir tidak memberontak telah-pun menjadi gila dan mengamok sehingga mengorbankan nyawa mereka dan membunoh orang yang mereka benchi kerana Tunku terlangsong bagi muka. Tanggong-jawab tentang mati-nya orang2 ini, Islam dan kafir, terpaksa di-letak di-atas bahu pemimpin yang salah pendapat.

Patek mohon ma’af tetapi patek ingin sampaikan perasaan orang-orang Melayu kepada Y.T.M. Tunku. Sabenar-nya, orang2 Melayu sekarang, baik PAS baik Umno, betul2 benchi pada Tunku, terutama orang2 yang di-hina-kan oleh orang China dan yang kehilangan rumah-tangga, anak-pinak, saudara-mara kerana tolak ansur Tunku.

Mereka kata Tunku chuma ingin di-kenal-kan sebagai "The Happy Prime Minister" walau-pun ra’ayat menderita. Mereka tahu bahawa dalam keadaan dharurat-pun Tunku ashek bermain poker dengan kawan2 China Tunku. Budak2 polis mencherita yang Tunku mengguna-kan kenderaan dan eskot Polis untuk menchari kaki poker.

Sa-balek-nya pula orang2 China tidak ada sedikit-pun hormat kepada Tunku. Mereka berkata Tunku "naïve" dan tidak ada kaliber. Ada lagi yang mereka kata yang tak dapat patek sebut-kan. Kata2 itu datang dari semua golongan orang China, dari intelek sa-hinggga China becha.

Pada masa lewat2 ini lagi satu kesan burok telah timbul. Orang2 Melayu dalam Civil Servis, dari Perm. Sec. ka-bawah, pegawai2 tentera dan polis Melayu tidak ada lagi kepercayaan dan respect kepada Tunku. Patek tahu kebanyakan mereka sokong PAS dalam undi pos. Pegawai Melayu dari
Polis, tentera dan askar biasa maseh patoh kepada kerajaan oleh kerana arahan sekarang sesuai dengan kehendak mereka sendiri. Kalau Tunku membuat apa2 yang tidak di-ingini oleh mereka, patek perchaya mereka tidak akan menurut kata Tunku.

Patek tahu Tunku takut kominis mengambil kesempatan kalau timbul kekachauan dalam negeri. Patek lebih takut kalau kerajaan mula "lose control over the armed forces". Sa-kali ini terjadi, keadaan tidak akan puleh semula. Sampai bila-pun kerajaan civil mesti tundok kepada tentera. Tunku biasa jadi "Happy Prime Minister" tetapi orang yang akan turut ganti tak akan merasai "happiness" apa2.

Patek harap Y.T.M. Tunku jangan-lah menipu diri dengan berkata "satu hari mereka akan bershukor dengan perbuatan saya". Ta’akan yang sa-orang itu selalu betul dan yang banyak selalu salah. Patek ingin sampaikan kepada Tunku fikiran ra’ayat yang sa-benar, ia-itu masa telah lampau untuk Tunku bersara dari menjadi perdana menteri dan Ketua Umno.

Patek faham betul2 kuasa yang ada pada Tunku dan patek masih ingat nasib Aziz Ishak. Tapi patek tak akan jadi sa-orang yang bertanggong-jawab kalau patek tidak terangkan apa yang patek sebut-kan. Kalau di-penjara sa-kali-pun patek terpaksa kata apa yang patek telah kata-kan.

Patek di-beritahu ia-itu Tunku berkata patek Pakistani. Patek tidak perchaya kata2 orang kerana patek tahu Y.T.M. Tunku tidak akan berkata begitu. Patek-lah yang selalu mempertahan-kan Tunku apabila orang2 PAS kata yang Tunku anak Siam yang ta’ berhak memimpin orang Melayu. Jadi Tunku juga akan mempertahan-kan patek walau-pun maseh ada dua sudu darah Pakistani dalam tubuh badan patek.

Patek sa-kali lagi mengulangkan ia-itu kenyataan yang patek buat itu ia-lah menchegah kejadian yang akan menambah perasaan benchi orang2 Melayu terhadap kerajaan dan menggalak-kan orang2 China menjatohkan lagi maruah orang2 Melayu. Rusohan yang lebeh besar akan berlaku jika ini di-
biarkan. Tentera sendiri tidak akan dapat di-kawal. Dan lagi kalau T.H. Tan dan dewan orang China boleh membuat kenyataan, kenapa ketua2 Umno tidak boleh?

Patek menulis surat ini dengan hati yang ikhlas dan harapan bahawa Y.T.M. Tunku akan bacha surat ini dengan sa-penoh-nya sendiri. Patek berdo’a ke-hadhrat Allah subhanahuwataala supaya di-buka hati Tunku untok menerima kenyataan yang sa-benar ini walau-pun pahit dan pedas.

Taming the tiger

Tony Anthony, the author of the book 'Taming The Tiger' was sharing his life story with more than 1,800 people in Kuantan last night.

Tony was a 3 times World Kongfu Champions in the early 80s.

He retraced his tough childhood life in the monastery in China to dangerous prison life in Cypriot. At the lowest point in his life, a Christian brother wrote to him when he read about Tony's predicament in the newspaper. Initially Tony was very angry with this Christian brother for being such a busy body. Despite Tony's rejection this Christian brother never gave up sharing the Good News with him. As time went on the anger within Tony turned to respect and eventually accepted God's love in his life.

At the end of his sharing, many were touched and more than 20 persons came forward to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

Truly it was a joyful evening for all and greater is the rejoicing in Heavens.

Apparently a group called "GERTAK", which was heeded by the UMNO MArang Division chairman has organised an event on May 13th.

The event will be held at the state's Sports Complex in Kuala Terengganu at 9.00 am on Thursday. A billboard announcing the event shows a large portrait of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who will be the special guest.

I beseech all peace loving, truth seeking and responsible 'rakyat' of this beloved nation to rise up and reject this event and it's organisers and supporters.

We may be coloured by the past but we have the right to choose the colour of our future.

Let's tell Tun Mahathir, GERTAK and its supporters in no uncertain term that we reject racism in all forms.

Man rescued from rubble 14 days after Haiti quake

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Jan 27 — US troops pulled a man alive from the rubble of a collapsed building in Haiti’s destroyed capital yesterday, two weeks after a massive earthquake rattled the country.

The 35-year-old man, covered in dust and dressed only in underpants, was carried out from the ruins of a building in downtown Port-au-Prince and was driven off for medical treatment. He did not appear to have any serious injuries.

The rescue, exactly 14 days after the magnitude-7.0 earthquake killed as many as 200,000 people, came as the US-led relief effort was focused on getting help to hundreds of thousands of survivors left homeless, hungry and injured.

Today I missed my morning prayer as I rushed to send my son, Kuo Ren to the bus station. When I received the news of the church bombing, I tried to call Kuo Ren, who is on the way to Kuala Lumpur but the no one picked up the phone. My only recourse is to pray for his safety.

Pastor Lay Han shared from Luke 2:11 on the purpose of Christ coming. After the message she asked if we 'nahor' ? "Nahor' is the Orang Asli word for understand. And all of us shouted 'nahor'.

It was such a wonderful time to sing and dance to the praise and worship songs in 'Bahasa'. Above all the spirit of unity among God's children was truly wonderful to behold.

After the service, I have made my next New Year resolution to work closer with the Orang Asli ministry.

Spiderman II

Last night while watching Spiderman II on TV2, I was awe struck when Spiderman convinced Dr Octavia to release him from his grip.

Spiderman told Dr Octavia, " Sometime in order to do the right thing, we will have to put aside our dream."

No doubt our dream and vision are the driving force behind our success and what we want in life. But doing the right thing far out weigh our own desires.

"Do the right things and right the wrong". So shall this be my New Year resolution for 2010.

Breakthrough For Chang Long

Chang Long is a hyperactive primary student. Most of the time, he is immersed in his own world. Many children of his age do not understand his conditions and find difficulty to make friend with him. Nevertheless his parent never give up hope in him and so do the Sunday school teachers.

Last Saturday the church celebrated early Christmas and Chang Long was involved in a dancing presentation. His mother was concerned that he may not perform well on stage when the Sunday school teacher informed her about the presentation. Praise God the presentation was excellent and the audience even requested for an encore.

His parents were exceedingly happy and all of us were thankful to God for his breakthrough.

Last night I read through a touching and beautifully written letter by Chloe Anne to her mother. In the letter, she truly expressed her thoughts and emotions without reservation in such a sweet and innocent ways. Kudos to Berine, the hero who saved two girls in Sarawak.

BELAGA: The angelic smiles on the faces of half sisters Emai Joseph, five, and Catherine Ubong Ding, four, belie their recent near-death experience.

The two girls, who live at the Lepo Badeng settlement in the Kapit division, about 50km from Bakun, have their fellow villager 12-year-old Berine Sua Linggi to thank for their second chance at life after they fell into the Belaga River while playing on the bank on Aug 16.

Berine, who was walking along the riverbank with his friends, saw something floating in the water.
“When I went closer, I realised there were two children in the river. I could see the back of their heads as they were being tossed around in the water.

“They were several metres from the river bank, floating about in a whirlpool of current.

“I shouted to my friends and jumped into the river, swimming as fast as I could. I then grabbed the two girls and pulled them to the shore,” he said, adding that he and his friends then ran back to the village for help.

Longhouse elder Francis Merang said when he found the two girls on the riverbank, they were not breathing and their bodies were cold.

“We rushed them in a car to the Sungai Asap clinic about 10 minutes away. An attendant at the clinic, Idin, then gave them emergency treatment.

“He turned their bodies around and pressed their bodies a few times before water rushed out from their mouths. The girls then started coughing,” said Merang.

He said when villagers tried to thank Idin, he said he was merely doing his job.

The 'rakyat' lives in peace and harmony in Sabah unlike those self-proclaimed champions of race in peninsular Malaysia. Let's take a look at the ugly cow head incident in section 23 of Shah Alam on the 28th August 2009. Indeed we have much to learn from our brothers and sisters in Broneo.
